Subscription providers
Untangle is operated by AE TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17419062, with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Subscriptions to Untangle are provided by that company; payment is taken by the store or payment processor you bought through.
- Purchases made through the Untangle website are processed by Stripe.
- Purchases made inside the Untangle Android app are processed by Google Play Billing.
- For Android purchases we use RevenueCat as our subscription infrastructure provider: it validates the Google Play receipt and tells our server whether your subscription is currently valid. RevenueCat does not take payment and does not receive your card details.
- Untangle does not directly collect or store users' full payment card details.
- Payment processing is subject to the applicable Stripe or Google Play terms and privacy policies.
Free and paid access
Untangle can be used without paying. A free account includes a set of weekly allowances (for example a limited number of new untangles, journal pages, guided reflections, AI insight generations and guided Support sessions each week), a limited window of history, and a limit on how many goals and reminders can be active at once. Some features — such as search, the calendar view, export and the deeper AI insight screens — are part of the paid plan.
The current allowances and which features are included are shown in the app and on the upgrade screens, and they are enforced by our servers rather than only in the interface. We do not publish the exact numbers here because we may adjust them as the product develops; where a change materially reduces what a paying subscriber already has, we will tell subscribers before it takes effect.
If a paid subscription ends, nothing you have written is deleted. Your account returns to the free allowances, and content outside the free limits becomes read-only rather than being removed.
Fair use of AI features
Paid plans are for personal use. To keep the service stable and available to everyone, automated, scripted or extreme volumes of AI generation are subject to fair-use protections. These are set well above normal personal use, so ordinary use is unaffected.
If a limit is reached, AI generation pauses temporarily for that account and resumes automatically at the start of the next usage period; everything else — writing, saved entries, history, search, calendar and export — continues to work as normal. We do not publish exact thresholds, as they may be adjusted to protect the service.
Subscription plans
The following recurring subscriptions are offered:
- Untangle Founding Members — monthly.
- Untangle Premium Monthly — monthly.
- Untangle Premium Yearly — yearly.
- Regional Premium plans — monthly, offered in specific countries through Google Play (currently including an India-only monthly Premium plan).
They all give the same paid feature access. Founding Members additionally get a promotional price and a Founding Member badge.
Regional plans grant the same Premium features. Availability is determined by the store, not by your IP address or device language, and the plan and price you see are the ones the store confirms before purchase.
Founding Members
Founding Membership is a recurring subscription, not a one-off purchase and not lifetime access. While it is active you have the same paid feature access as Premium, at the founding price, and that price stays locked for as long as the subscription remains continuously active.
If you cancel, you keep paid access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Once the subscription actually expires, paid features stop and your account returns to the free allowances — you keep your Founding Member badge and number, but the badge on its own does not grant paid access. “Locked-in” or “forever” pricing refers only to the price of the subscription while it stays active.
Founding Member status is a promotional subscription tier. It does not confer ownership, equity, shares, investment rights or any legal stake in Untangle.
Prices, tax and currency
- Prices may vary by country or region, platform or store, currency, applicable taxes, promotional offers and the specific plan; there is no single universal Premium price.
- Prices are shown by the store or checkout you buy through, including any tax or VAT that applies to your country. We do not publish prices in this policy, because the store price shown to you at the moment of purchase is the one that applies.
- Google Play displays localized prices inside the Android app.
- The price displayed by Google Play or Stripe immediately before you confirm the purchase is the applicable price and the amount you will be charged.
- Promotional or founding prices may be withdrawn for new customers while remaining subject to the terms shown at the time of purchase for existing subscribers.
Free trials (Google Play)
A 7-day free trial may be offered on Untangle subscriptions inside the Android app. The trial is offered by Google Play to eligible users only, and eligibility is determined by Google Play — a previous subscriber may not be eligible for another trial. No trial is offered for website (Stripe) purchases. If your account is eligible, the trial length and the recurring price that follows it are displayed in the app, as reported by Google Play, before you confirm.
- You start a trial by confirming the subscription in the genuine Google Play purchase flow, which includes providing or confirming a payment method with Google.
- No subscription charge is made by Google Play for the trial period.
- Unless cancelled before the end of the 7-day free trial, the subscription will automatically convert to the selected paid plan and the applicable recurring subscription price will be charged through Google Play.
- The subscription then continues to renew automatically each billing period until cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time through Google Play. Cancelling does not remove access immediately — Premium remains available until the end of the applicable trial or paid subscription period, after which the account returns to the free allowances.
- Premium features are active for the whole trial period, and the trial applies to the specific plan you selected (Founding Monthly, Premium Monthly or Premium Yearly); the amount charged on conversion is that plan's recurring price in your country and currency, as shown by Google Play.
Automatic renewal
- Untangle subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- Where a free trial applies, the subscription converts to the selected paid plan and is charged at the applicable recurring price unless it is cancelled before the trial ends.
- The subscription price and billing period are clearly displayed before purchase.
- Renewal charges are processed by the platform through which the subscription was purchased.
- For Android purchases the price shown by Google Play is charged to your Google Play account and, unless cancelled, the subscription renews automatically in accordance with Google Play's subscription terms.
Manage or cancel on Android (Google Play)
- Android subscriptions must be managed through your Google Play account.
- You can manage or cancel via: Google Play Store → Profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Deleting the Untangle app or deleting your Untangle account does not automatically cancel a Google Play subscription.
- Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period.
- You keep access to paid features until the current billing period ends, unless Google issues a refund or terminates access earlier.
- If you use Google Play's option to pause a subscription, paid features are suspended for the paused period and resume when the subscription resumes and renews.
Manage or cancel on the web (Stripe)
- Website subscriptions must be managed through Untangle's billing portal or your account settings.
- Cancellation stops future renewal charges.
- You retain access until the end of the current paid billing period unless otherwise stated.
Restore purchases (Android)
Android users may use Restore Purchases in the app to reconnect an eligible Google Play subscription to their Untangle account. Restoration relies on the Google account that made the original purchase.
Failed payments, grace period and expiry
For Android subscriptions, Google may apply a grace period or account-hold state if a renewal payment fails. During this period Untangle may keep limited access active while Google attempts to resolve the payment issue, in line with Google Play's rules.
For website subscriptions, Stripe retries a failed payment and we may email you about it. If the payment is not resolved, the subscription ends and the account returns to the free allowances.
When a subscription simply expires or is cancelled, paid access stops at the end of the paid period. If a purchase is refunded or reversed (including a Google Play refund or a card chargeback), paid access is withdrawn as soon as we are notified rather than at the end of the period. See the Cancellation and Refund Policy.
Records we keep
To manage your subscription we store limited purchase information such as product ID, purchase token, order/transaction reference, subscription status, purchase and expiry dates, and cancellation, grace-period and renewal status. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
