1. Your agreement with us
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and AE TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD ("Untangle", "we", "us"). Untangle is operated by AE TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17419062, with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. AE TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD owns and operates the Untangle website and Android app (the "Service"); "Untangle" is our brand and app name. By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Subscription and Billing Policy and our Cancellation and Refund Policy.
If you do not agree, please do not use Untangle.
2. What Untangle is
Untangle is a mental clarity, journaling, and AI-assisted reflection tool. It is available as a website and as an Android app distributed through Google Play. It is a software product — not a medical service, not therapy, not a crisis line, and not a substitute for professional care.
3. Accounts and age
To use most of Untangle you need an account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials private and for activity on your account. Untangle is currently available only to people aged 16 or older. This is Untangle's current service eligibility requirement — not a statement that 16 is the legally guaranteed threshold in every country. If the minimum age required by your local law is higher, that higher age applies to you.
Before you can create an account or finish onboarding you must explicitly confirm that you are 16 years of age or older. The confirmation is never pre-selected, and we record only the date and time you gave it — we do not ask for your date of birth. This applies the same way on the website, in the Android app, and when you sign in with Google or another social provider.
We do not currently offer a parental-consent route: if you are under 16, you cannot create or use an Untangle account for now. If we learn that an account holder is under this age we will close the account and delete the associated data.
You must acknowledge and accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy before creating an account or completing a purchase.
4. Subscription providers
- Purchases made through the Untangle website are processed by Stripe.
- Purchases made inside the Untangle Android app are processed by Google Play Billing.
- Untangle does not directly collect or store users' full payment card details.
- Payment processing is subject to the applicable Stripe or Google Play terms and privacy policies, in addition to these Terms.
5. Subscription plans
Untangle currently offers the following paid subscriptions:
- Untangle Founding Members — monthly subscription.
- Untangle Premium Monthly — monthly subscription.
- Untangle Premium Yearly — yearly subscription.
Some countries also have regional plans — for example a monthly Premium plan sold only to eligible customers in India through Google Play at the local price. Regional plans grant the same Premium features as the equivalent standard plan. Which plans and prices you see depend on your country or region, the store or platform you buy through, currency, applicable taxes, any promotional offer and the plan itself.
The subscription name, price and billing period will be clearly displayed before you confirm the purchase, whether on the website (via Stripe) or in the Android app (via Google Play).
5a. Free and paid access
Untangle can be used without paying. A free account has weekly allowances (for example a limited number of new untangles, journal pages, guided reflections, AI insight generations and guided Support sessions each week), a limited history window, and limits on how many goals and reminders can be active at once. Some features — including search, the calendar view, export and the deeper AI insight screens — are part of the paid plan.
The current allowances and included features are shown in the app and on the upgrade screens, and are enforced server-side. We may adjust them as the product develops; where a change materially reduces what a paying subscriber already has, we will tell subscribers before it takes effect. If a paid subscription ends, nothing you have written is deleted — your account returns to the free allowances and content beyond those limits becomes read-only.
Internal owner/administrator accounts used to operate the service are not a consumer subscription tier and are not offered for sale.
5b. Free trials (Google Play)
A 7-day free trial may be offered inside the Untangle Android app through Google Play. The trial is available only to eligible users, and eligibility is determined by Google Play — for example, a person who has previously subscribed to Untangle may not be eligible for another trial. We do not decide, promise or guarantee that any particular account will receive a free trial, and no free trial is offered for purchases made on the website.
Starting a trial requires you to confirm the subscription through the genuine Google Play purchase flow, which includes providing or confirming a payment method with Google. Google Play does not charge the subscription price for the trial period.
Unless cancelled before the end of the 7-day free trial, the subscription will automatically convert to the selected paid plan and the applicable recurring subscription price will be charged through Google Play.
After that first charge the subscription continues to renew automatically each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through Google Play (see section 7). Cancelling does not remove access immediately: paid features remain available until the end of the applicable trial or paid subscription period.
The trial length, the recurring price and the currency that will apply are shown by Google Play in the app before you confirm, and prices and currencies vary by country and by plan. Where a trial is offered on Founding Monthly, Premium Monthly or Premium Yearly, the price charged when the trial converts is the recurring price of the plan you selected, as shown by Google Play at the time of purchase.
Premium features are active during the trial. If you cancel during the trial you keep Premium until the trial period ends, after which the account returns to the free allowances and nothing you have written is deleted.
6. Automatic renewal
- Where a free trial applies, the subscription converts to the selected paid plan at the end of the trial unless it is cancelled before the trial ends, and the applicable recurring price is then charged by Google Play.
- Untangle subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- The subscription price and billing period are clearly displayed before purchase.
- Renewal charges are processed by the platform through which the subscription was purchased (Stripe for the website, Google Play Billing for the Android app).
- Where you buy inside the Android app, the amount shown by Google Play is charged to your Google Play account, and the subscription renews automatically each billing period in accordance with Google Play's subscription terms unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- You will be charged the price shown at the time of each renewal, which may change only in line with the store's price-change rules and applicable law.
7. Cancellations
Android / Google Play
- Android subscriptions must be managed through your Google Play account.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription via: Google Play Store → Profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Deleting the Untangle app or deleting your Untangle account does not automatically cancel a Google Play subscription.
- Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period.
- You keep access to paid features until the current billing period ends, unless Google issues a refund or terminates access earlier.
Web / Stripe
- Website subscriptions must be managed through Untangle's billing portal or your account settings.
- Cancellation stops future renewal charges.
- You retain access until the end of the current paid billing period unless otherwise stated.
8. Refunds
- Google Play purchases and refund requests are subject to Google Play's refund rules and applicable consumer law. Untangle does not control Google Play's refund decisions.
- Website purchases processed through Stripe are subject to Untangle's Cancellation and Refund Policy and applicable consumer law.
- We cannot guarantee that every refund request will be approved. This does not limit refunds or cancellation rights required by applicable law (including local consumer law in your country) or by the rules of the platform you purchased through. For Google Play purchases, cancellation and refund processes and rights are also subject to Google Play's policies.
- Where a purchase is refunded or reversed (including a Google Play refund or a card chargeback), paid access is withdrawn as soon as we are notified, rather than continuing to the end of the billing period. Cancelling, by contrast, leaves access in place until the paid period ends.
- Your statutory consumer rights are not affected by anything in these Terms.
9. Restore purchases
Android users may use the Restore Purchases option in the app to reconnect an eligible Google Play subscription to their Untangle account. Restoration relies on the Google account that made the original purchase.
10. Prices and currency
- Prices may vary by country or region, platform or store, currency, applicable taxes, promotional offers and the specific plan. There is no single universal Premium price.
- Google Play displays localized prices inside the Android app.
- The amount shown by Google Play or Stripe immediately before you confirm the purchase is the amount that will be charged.
- Promotional or founding prices may be withdrawn for new customers while remaining subject to the terms shown at the time of purchase for existing subscribers.
11. Founding Members
"Untangle Founding Members" is a promotional, early-access recurring subscription offered to the first members of Untangle. It includes a price that stays locked for as long as the subscription remains continuously active, subject to the terms shown at purchase.
Founding Membership is not lifetime Premium access. While it is active you get the same paid features as Premium. If you cancel, access continues until the end of the period you have paid for; once the subscription expires, paid features stop and your account returns to the free allowances. You keep your Founding Member badge and number, but the badge alone does not grant paid access. Where our marketing uses words like "locked in" or "forever", it refers to the price of the subscription while it remains active — not to permanent free access.
Founding Member status is a promotional subscription tier and does not confer ownership, equity, shares, investment rights, or legal stake in Untangle.
12. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Untangle to:
- Break the law or harm others.
- Send spam, abuse, harassment, hate speech, threats, or content that exploits or endangers minors.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or disrupt the Service.
- Submit malware or probe for vulnerabilities outside our responsible disclosure process.
13. AI output
Untangle uses AI models to reflect, summarise, and respond to what you write. AI responses can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, out of date or inappropriate for your situation. Treat AI output as a starting point for your own thinking, not as fact, advice, or instruction.
In particular, AI output in Untangle is not medical, psychological, therapeutic, legal, financial or emergency advice, and must not be relied on as such. It does not come from a qualified professional, it is not reviewed by one before you see it, and it cannot assess your circumstances. You are responsible for any decision you take after reading it, and you should seek qualified professional help where your situation calls for it.
What you write in an AI-assisted feature is sent to our AI provider so a response can be generated — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is sent. Your content is not used to train AI models by us.
14. Not medical, therapy, or crisis care
Untangle is a general wellbeing, journaling and reflection tool. It is not a medical service, not therapy or counselling, not a mental-health professional or healthcare provider, and not an emergency or crisis service. It is not a medical device, it is not intended or able to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor or prevent any condition, and it makes no clinical claim of any kind. Nothing in the Service is medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a qualified professional — we cannot help in an emergency and we do not monitor what you write.
This applies to the Support section as well. Support offers optional written self-help exercises informed by widely used, evidence-informed self-help approaches, but it is not therapy, not diagnosis, not medical treatment, not professional healthcare and not an emergency or crisis service. It is not clinically validated or endorsed by any health body, it does not assess or monitor your mental health, and it is not a substitute for speaking to a qualified professional.
The “I need urgent help” screen in Support is a manually maintained list of third-party emergency numbers and helpline directories. Untangle does not detect crisis, does not monitor what you write, and does not contact emergency services or anyone else on your behalf. Those services are operated by third parties, we cannot guarantee their availability, accuracy or coverage in your country, and the list may be incomplete or out of date. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services directly.
15. Your content
You own what you write in Untangle. You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and display your content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. We do not sell your personal data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
16. Termination and account deletion
You can stop using Untangle and delete your account at any time. Please note that deleting your Untangle account does not automatically cancel an external Google Play or Stripe subscription. You must cancel through the original payment provider before deletion, otherwise renewal charges may continue.
Subscription and transaction records may be retained where required for fraud prevention, tax, accounting, disputes and legal compliance.
17. Disclaimer of warranties
Untangle is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, except those that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
18. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Untangle will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
19. Your statutory consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights, including rights available to consumers in the United Kingdom under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or equivalent local law.
20. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction, reflecting that Untangle is operated by AE TECHNOLOGIES GROUP LTD, a company registered in England and Wales.
Nothing in these Terms removes or limits the mandatory consumer protection rights that apply in your country of residence. If you are a consumer, you may always bring a claim in the courts of your place of residence where local law gives you that right, and you keep the benefit of any consumer protections that local law makes non-excludable.
Untangle is not sponsored, endorsed by, or affiliated with Google.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If the changes are material, we will notify you in-app or by email before they take effect.
